How To Use Food To Build Your Love.

1. Know that food tastes sweeter when you eat together.

2. Get to know each other's favourite meal.
3. Find dishes you both are good at cooking, maybe she is good at making stew, he is good at making ugali.

4. Don't come home full. Come home with an empty stomach to eat with family. It hurts when you go out of your way to cook but your spouse comes home rejecting your meal.

5. Build friendship in your marriage, it is difficult to enjoy a meal with someone you are not friends with.

6. If you are struggling financially, set aside a day once a week/bi-weekly/monthly where you spoil yourselves with a good meal to make memories.

7. Appreciate each other's cooking styles,  you two had different upbringing. Maybe she fries the spinach, maybe he steams them.

8. Teach each other how to cook, learn new recipes together.

9. When it is the turn of one of you to cook, the other can be in the kitchen to keep company. Kitchen talks can be amazing.

10. If one of you comes home early than the other, he/she should prepare a meal especially if the other is coming home late and tired.

11. If you two have a house help, give a united order on how and when you want the food prepared and make it a tradition to eat together as a family.

12. If one of you is coming home late, preserve some food for him/her. It hurts when you come home and realize that every one ate but you were forgotten.

13. Never stop serving each other. Sometimes treat each other to break fast in bed.

14. Eating together brings you closer as a family. The family table is not the place to talk about issues but for humour, catching up, assurance of love and making memories.

15. As a husband/father, have days when you cook for the family, even if it is nyama choma (roasted meat). These are some of the memories children cherish as they grow up, "I used to love it when dad cooked for us" they will say.

16. Come up with a meal plan as a guide for what foods to eat which day. It will help you plan, shop and diversify what you eat as a family.

17. Occasionally order take away food or go out as a family to break the monotony and give yourselves a break from cooking.

18. Pray together before eating, it fosters spiritual growth.

19. Wash the dishes together or take turns to do so if you don't have a house help. Show teamwork. Don't just eat together, clean together.

Happy marriage.
